Recipe: Homemade Chai

Easy to make and dare I say, better than Starbucks!


Milk teas are hands down my favourite type of tea! What would we do without a warm cuppa in the winters? This ones for the milky tea lovers. Creamy, Foamy and delicious! 

Fun Fact: The word “Chai” is of Indian origin meaning tea.

Here are 2 different ways I like to make Chai, right at home! This blog post shares a hot chai recipe, followed by a chilled chai recipe!



Ingredients:

-Chai (any kind works)

-Water

-Brown Sugar or Honey

-Milk ( substitutes include but aren’t limited to almond milk and soy milk)


Optional

      -  Ground Cloves

      -  Nutmeg

      - Vanilla Extract

      - Whipped Cream

      - Ground Cinnamon

Chai Concentrate: 

  1. In a small saucepan, bring water to a simmer. 

  2. Steep tea along with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.

  3. After 5 minutes, remove the tea leaves from the saucepan Note: this part of the drink has a shelf life of 12+ months when stored properly!


Hot Chai Latte:

  1. Bring the concentrate to a simmer in a small saucepan. Add vanilla extract and sweetner. Mix well.

  2. Slowly add your milk, while stirring the mixture! Use whole milk for maximum froth:)

  3. Pour into a mug. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle cinnamon!

  4. Enjoy your yummy homemade drink.


Cold Brew Chai: 

  1. Add ice, and fill the serving glass about ⅔ full with milk.

  2. Fill the last ⅓ of the glass with chai concentrate.

  3. Ready to serve!


NOTE: some chai lattes are stronger than others! Everyone likes their chai different:)
